There are many new types of High Bay Light fixtures being manufactured Most of the newer styles use a T5 High Output linear fluorescent bulbs (generally 54 watts). Most high bay applications include warehouses and industrial space where a maximum amount of light is needed and the ceiling is very high. High bay light fixtures also include metal halide and high pressure sodium fixtures as well.
High Bay and Low Bay fixtures are currently going through an industry wide overhaul. The old high pressure sodium and metal halide fixtures are now being replaced with very energy efficient T5 and T8 fixtures. These fixtures generally come in 4 lamp and 6 lamp versions with the appropriate ballast. The T5 and T8 high bay fixtures offer early back pack periods on electricity costs and lamp replacements.
